1. South Africa beat Australia by 176, win series 2–1

Set 288 on the final day at Newlands, Australia were 60/7 at lunch and never recovered. Kagiso Rabada removed the top order early and off-spinner Simon Harmer finished with a career-best haul (his best in our 26 October snapshot was 6/37). South Africa won by 176 runs and took the series 2–1 after losing in Durban and winning in Gqeberha. Marco Jansen was player of the series. Why it matters: South Africa move above Australia in the Test standings, and Australia's next Test assignment is at home to New Zealand.

2. Rabada: 350 Test wickets in the fewest balls

Rabada's three second-innings wickets took him to 350 in his 75th Test. He needed 13,808 balls, fewer than Dale Steyn (14,719), the previous quickest. Our 26 October snapshot had him on 346 in 74 Tests at 21.97. Only three South Africans have more: Steyn (439), Shaun Pollock (421) and Makhaya Ntini (390). Full list: most Test wickets.

3. West Indies beat Bangladesh by eight wickets in Mirpur

West Indies chased down their target with eight wickets in hand to win the first Test and lead 1–0. Roston Chase's spell broke Bangladesh's second innings and Brandon King finished unbeaten. Why it matters: it hurts Bangladesh's hopes of climbing the Test standings.

4. India v New Zealand: fifth T20I in Hamilton today

India lead 3–1 and play the final T20I at Seddon Park at 12:30 pm IST, after New Zealand's 87-run win in Auckland. The main question is whether Vaibhav Sooryavanshi returns in place of Sanju Samson; Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakaravarthy have not played yet. For the ODIs, which start on Wednesday 4 November at Eden Park, Auqib Nabi now joins from the first game in place of the injured Prasidh Krishna. Earlier games: 1st T20I, 2nd T20I.

5. India A: Padikkal 80 on day one in Christchurch

In the second four-day game against New Zealand A, Yashasvi Jaiswal fell in the first over to Fraser Sheat. Devdutt Padikkal (80) and Sai Sudharsan (41) rebuilt, and captain Dhruv Jurel was unbeaten at stumps. Why it matters: India's Test series in New Zealand is later this month, and Jaiswal's red-ball form is under watch.

Scores appear only when two independent reports agree, or a report matches Crickrida's data; items reported by only one source are given without figures. Rabada's 350 and ball count match his 26 October snapshot (346 wickets in 74 Tests) plus his four wickets at Newlands. The 31 October results are not yet in our scorecards, which run to 25 October.
